Podcast: Episode 9 – Tousart, or not Tousart, that is the question.

Two wins in two matches? Zero goals conceded but nine scored? Who is this team impersonating as Lyon? This week, Sam (@OZOL1950) and Rabeeta (@OffsideBeet) are joined by Jorge Rodrigues (@jrod258), the admin for OL’s North American supporter’s group (@OL_ADN). The three of them discuss Lyon’s promising season start, squad rotation, Martin Terrier’s amazing hair, and to go along with this week’s Shakespearean theme, the rather Hamlet-esque drama unfolding around the club’s two senior goalkeepers. This podcast also features predictions for upcoming matches that are both depressing and bold. Have a listen below and let us know if Rabeeta needs help. You will also find timestamps for specific topics if you’d like to jump around. If there are any topics you’d like us to cover, just tweet at any one of us, or you can send us an email at LyonOffside@gmail.com.

Jeff’s New Team vs. Jeff’s Old Team: Lyon vs. Angers Preview

Arguably, the battle between these two teams has already been fought. Lyon and Angers spent all of last week in negotiations over Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, former Arsenal reject turned Angers phenom. The final sticking point was whether The Jeffster could play against Lyon on Friday.

The answer was soundly no. Angers – also known as the French Juventus – did not feel like getting scored upon by a player who was just in their jersey a few days ago.

Sylvinho’s Big Day: Monaco vs. Lyon Preview

Summer vacation’s over already? It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two months since last season ended. In that time, there have been many changes within the club, everything from new faces arriving, familiar ones leaving, and the return of Juninho as sporting director.

But despite the new-look team, all eyes will firmly be fixed on Sylvinho. As the new manager, he must show at least the promise of what he was brought in to do – change Lyon from perennial podium members to actual title contenders. And as this game is the season opener, there is extra pressure to make sure Lyon is off to a good start.

Nabil Fekir moves to Real Betis. Yeah, you read that right.

Everyone’s favorite reality show, Finally Signing the Fekirs, switched networks yesterday. Next season, it will be syndicated in Spain, not France.

Am I being dramatic? Abso-feking-lutely not. It’s a transfer saga that’s gone on for over a year, one that’s emotionally drained Lyon fans, Liverpool fans, and everyone else in between.

Nabil Fekir in Saint Etienne colors. It’s a dark day for Lyon fans.

Lyon streamroll their way through the summer transfer window

In a sharp departure from previous years, Lyon have been very efficient in the early part of this transfer window, with multiple signings for the men’s and women’s teams completed within just the first 3 weeks.

This level of productivity is unheard of – I’m used to Lyon dragging their heels all summer, with other clubs pulling their hair out, several Twitter tantrums from Aulas, and at least one Lyon player threatening to boycott training. Someone also usually ends up in therapy. That’s always been the Lyon way.
